The Last Resort: Magic's Trick

My dog Magic wrote this comic strip when he was about two. Rather, I should say he performed this trick and the comic strip wrote itself. I'm sorry it took me this long to put it to paper.  If a comic strip about dog defecation and the desecration of a beloved childhood icon can be tastefully done, I'd like to think this is it.

The trick certainly wasn't this pretty in real life...

Desiderata: Desired Things

It's not always easy to find the motivation to get out of bed and make comics, or go to to work or do whatever you have to do in a day. Drinking a lot of coffee helps.  I fully intended to post a comic strip this morning but I stumbled across something better than any of the trash I make. It's no joke, but I think it will be worth your reading time..

I stumbled across this poem this morning as I was "working" in my comics cave. It's entitled "Desiderata". If you don't speak Latin like I don't  (wish I did), it translates into "Desired Things" and was written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann. Hope it motives you today as it did me....

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world..

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

Too Many Failed Logins

Happy Father's Day to me and all the other dads who read this. Enjoying the cardboard tie I got from my 6 year old daughter Josie as well as some peace and quiet to do whatever I want....and that is something I haven't got to do much of since my youngest daughter Mallory was born....DRAW COMICS!

It's been a while. A LONG while.  Four lousy posts last year and two were digitizing old stuff. To my twelve fans, I'm sorry. I should be rounded up and shot.

Anyway, glad to get back to doing what I love.  Enjoy the comic!
